As we look back on 2021, the one thing we won’t talk about is COVID. It’s a topic we’ve covered throughout the pandemic and though it was certainly the defining feature of the year, we’re sure you’re as tired of reading about it as we are. Instead, let’s talk about everything else.
After years of planning, 2021 was our moment to expand into cyber security. Magenta Security has always taken a holistic view of security to identify and respond to threats wherever they emerge and it’s clear that the nature of threats has evolved since we opened our doors a quarter-century ago.
To tackle these evolving threats, we launched Threat Evolution, a dedicated and specialised cyber security division within Magenta Security. We have many exciting plans for Threat Evolution and right now you can purchase cyber security training to bring your organisation up to speed on how to identify, avoid and contain cyber attacks.
Cyber attacks are rising and there is no sign that they will slow down as more of our business and work life moves online. Four in ten overall UK businesses and two out of three medium and large UK businesses were victims of cyber attacks in 2020/21. A cyber security breach is not a matter of if but when.
Security has evolved and so have we. Get in touch to learn more about how Threat Evolution can protect your business from cyber crime.
The lacklustre commitments from COP26 proved that businesses need to take matters into our own hands. 2021 was one of our biggest leaps in our commitment to green business, with the launch of our electric vehicle fleet (charged by the solar panels on our office roof) and our attainment of Carbon Neutral+ certification, following an audit by Carbon Footprint.
To achieve Carbon Neutral+ certification, we had to offset the eight tons of carbon per year that our organisation still produces, despite our best efforts. If you don’t obsess over every gram of carbon like we do, eight tons might sound like a lot but it’s lower than the emissions of an average UK household. For a business of our scale, it’s negligible.
Though we don’t have to offset much, our goal is still to become truly net zero by 2025, meaning no emissions and no offsetting required. We may even achieve negative emissions through the contributions our solar power makes to the grid and schemes such as tree planting and other sustainable carbon capture initiatives.
Governments may not be able to commit to net zero, but we can. We hope you will join us in the journey.
We don’t want to end on doom and gloom but as a security company we need to be honest about the upcoming risks to our clients. Right now, none loom larger than the ongoing supply chain crisis.
The push towards global just-in-time logistics has hit a major hurdle and it may be years before global trade is back on its feet – that’s if the growing number of extreme weather events don’t cause further setbacks. Shortages arise as if by random, meaning any sector can suddenly find themselves struggling to access vital supplies.
In the UK, shortages are compounded by post-Brexit trade disruption and rising costs. We saw during the fuel shortages earlier this year that the atmosphere can quickly become tense when people have to compete for essentials.
How does this relate to security? It’s much more than just angry customers. History shows that whenever a market is unable to satisfy demand, the black market steps in to take advantage. As demand skyrockets, so too does theft, whether of the petty variety, internal theft or from organised crime.
Struggling supply chains and their impacts will be a major challenge of 2022 but with our help you will be able to keep your staff, property and assets safe.
Magenta Security provide award winning security services throughout the UK. We are in the top 5% of ACS approved contractors and were the first security company in Europe to be awarded ISO 14001 for our environmental management systems.
