Security companies are used being prepared. Risk mitigation is, after all, most of what we do. But nothing could have prepared us for 2021 – not even 2020. For all its challenges, the year did provide some silver linings, including (fingers crossed) a green light for a somewhat normal Christmas.
We may not be free of the pandemic yet but, thankfully, the vaccine rollout has dramatically reduced the severity of COVID-19 amongst those who catch the virus, allowing for a 2021 with far less restrictions than we lived under in 2020. 2022 should be even better.
Our security guards – who have bravely worked on the frontline throughout the pandemic – have been instrumental in helping our clients transition back into open and safe business, protecting sites through their usual duties and through enforcing COVID safety measures.
On the management side, our role changed from providing security services to also providing COVID risk assessments to ensure that both our security guards and our clients are protected by all available methods of reducing virus transmission.
As a security company who has been dedicated to minimising our impact on the environment since our founding, it’s been hard not to feel like we’re repeating ourselves on the matter of climate. It was a matter of urgency then, it is an emergency now.
This year, we didn’t feel like we were beating a dead horse. The combination of devastating weather events and the lacklustre COP26 summit caused a surge of attention towards the climate crisis like we have never seen before. We may be a long way from rescuing the climate but the people power is growing and can’t be ignored forever.
In addition to achieving more of our green milestones, we’ve found or have been approached by networks and organisations who share our mission to live and conduct business sustainably and educate others on how to do the same. We hope you will join us in the ongoing fight for our future.
For many, this Christmas will be an opportunity to reunite with family and friends for perhaps the first time since the pandemic started.
As much as the internet has proved vital in recent times we have also experienced the limits of the virtual world. We’ve seen it’s dangers too, in the proliferation of conspiracy theories and misinformation.
At Magenta Security, we see this Christmas as a chance for physical reconnection to remind us all how important it is that we spend time with one another. We hope you get to hug your loved ones, hear their excited voices or just enjoy silent company as you digest one mince pie too many.
We also extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the security guards who will continue to work over the holidays, keeping people and property safe into the new year. Their bravery is a gift that can’t be bought, so please wish a very merry Christmas to any security guards you meet this festive season.
